Safari in Russia

For many, the word “safari” is associated with desert landscapes, lion prides and hot heat, from which you can hide only behind a wide-brimmed hat. Description suitable more for Africa.
That safari is typical only for Africa is an outdated stereotype. Now many countries offer tourists to visit their national parks, in which hundreds of species of animals and plants are represented. Russia also boasts interesting places for observing animals or just for walking in ecologically clean areas.

Safari tours are sightseeing tours in the wild, where participants can see exotic animals in their natural habitat. Most often, safaris are carried out by car, bus or other means of transportation, since the scale of the excursion route can be hundreds of kilometers

Baikal Reserve

The unique lake-sea Baikal is not the only thing that the Baikal region can attract. Untouched nature, dense forests covered with bluish haze, and hundreds of species of animals that have been living on Lake Baikal for thousands of years without fear.
The reserve was opened back in 1969 and, like a shield, surrounds the pride of Siberia – Lake Baikal with its coniferous forests. Tourists come here not only to see animals, but also to breathe in fresh clean air filled with aromas of forty species of plants. Employees of the reserve monitor them hourly, because the loss of at least one species can significantly affect the ecological balance.

In the reserve you can find the Irkutsk bluegrass, Baikal anemone, large-flowered slipper and other flowers listed in the Red Book. Due to its unique terrain and topography, the Baikal Reserve boasts a record number of species of mammals – forty-five! During a short walk, you can meet not only the chipmunk and flying squirrel, but also forest lemmings, otter musk deer and roe deer.

For tourists, there are special eco-friendly villages where you can stay along the way. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the prices are quite affordable.

Caucasian Biosphere Reserve
The Caucasian reserve is located between three regions: the Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Adygea and Karachay-Cherkessia. The reserve is the largest in the North Caucasus, and the honorary title “biosphere” was awarded to him in January 1979 by decision of UNESCO.

Once upon a time, on the land where the reserve park now stands, a grand-princely hunt was organized. After the February Revolution, the site was abandoned for a decade, until in 1924 it regained a second life.

In the reserve you can find brown bears, deer, wild boars and lynxes. But his trademark, no doubt, are small mammals, of which there are more than eighty species. The list includes several species of shrew, three species of feline and as many as twenty representatives of the species of horseshoe bats.

Great Arctic Reserve

The most unique reserve in Russia is the Great Arctic Reserve. Snow-covered landscapes familiar to Russian people, one way or another, are of interest.

The reserve is located in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and is a huge Arctic desert. Snow in this region hardly melts, the day is short and the night is long. However, this does not prevent the reserve from being one of the most popular in Russia. The secret of such excitement lies in the animals represented there. Polar bears, reindeer, ermines and arctic foxes are not what ordinary inhabitants are used to seeing.

Visitors to the reserve have a unique opportunity to see these little-studied animals not in the aviary of the zoo, but in their native land.

Despite the fact that the number of mammals represented is strikingly less than in any other protected areas, they are more exotic and interesting to tourists than animals from central Russia.

A country stretching for hundreds of kilometers from west to east, simply cannot but have in its territory large park areas protected by the state. They not only monitor the population of rare species of living creatures, but also offer everyone to plunge into the world of wildlife and see unique animals and plants outside of cells, aviaries and botanical gardens.
